THIS WED: ‘PAINTINGS & PHOTOGRAPHY BY WILL & DEAN’

THIS WED: ‘PAINTINGS & PHOTOGRAPHY BY WILL & DEAN’
WED 30 . MAY . 2012 6PM

Will Cooke and Dean Lever team up to blur the boundaries
of both the photographic image and abstraction by adopting
Gerhard Richter’s idea of the ‘photo painting’. This has been
achieved by basing a series of Will’s paintings on the colour,
form and spatial qualities of Dean’s photographs. This
blurring insinuates that both mediums can interact
simultaneously through the vessel that is abstraction,
clouding the denition of each.

THIS WED 6PM ‘EVERY TIME’ By LUCIEN ALPERSTEIN

What if everything that happened at or on or in a particular place contributed to how we feel when we are in that space, in the same way that if you get into bed after someone has been lying in it you can feel the heat they left in between your sheets? This series spans three years of what I would call photographic shoegazing and has no particular focus on specific subject matter. It’s a collection of places spanning half a metre to a kilometre where layers of meaning jumped out at me and I felt like I was in the past, like the past was in the present, or that stories are just stories and there is no before or after.

Shanti – peace, rest, calmness: the peace which passeth
understanding it really is a spiritual spectacle. it really isnt an abundant explosion of colour.

Don’t fall asleep on the trains. finding joy in nothing/everything.
hard work is your best friend. nothing goes to plan, what does respect mean to you?

Life as a series of inevitable problems, but its okay because we’re living. centuries after centuries of heterogeneity.

Chai. dont ever take your shoes for granted. only if you are alive, things matter. do you see it now? nameste.

THIS WED: THE CHROWN AND THE TATE PRESENT… ‘LUSYDITY’

Lusydity will showcase a number of works from young sydney artists gathered together by The Chrown Collective for a night of surreal and mysterious creations. The theme the crew has chosen explores the deeper levels of our subconsciousness, dreams, altered states of consciousness and experiences of other dimensions.

Lusydity challenges us to question our reality and not just take the thin existence we are fed as the only existence that is possible. The show will include photography, painting, drawing and sculpture from 12 artists, so prepare yourselves for a night of diverse talent and explosive imagination.”
